Poll: Americans want to cooperate with Russia in Syria

60 percent of US citizens supported cooperation with Russia in the fight against the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia) in Syria. These data were obtained in the result of a survey conducted by the University of Maryland.

The survey showed that the majority of Americans — 53 percent — believe that the fight against terrorism should be a priority for US and overshadow issues such as “the growing power of China and a resurgent Russia.” The majority of respondents stressed that if the fight against terrorism means a partnership with Russia, “so be it”, reports TASS.

It is noteworthy that only two percent supported the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad as the main purpose of the United States in the country.

Earlier the candidate in US presidents from Republican party, Donald trump has repeatedly stated that the destruction of ISIS is of paramount importance to US, and prevails over task the removal of Assad from power. However, he was in favour of cooperation with Russia in order “to fight against ISIS together.”
