The urn and the Golden chariot: the culmination of the funeral of the king of Thailand

Hundreds of thousands of people in Bangkok say goodbye to the deceased king Phumiphol Adulyadej.

Grieving citizens from all corners of Thailand come to Bangkok to say goodbye to the king.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, died in October 2016 at the age of 88 years. Lasted year mourning period comes to an end.

For the construction of places of cremation, surrounded by statues of mythical animals, took nearly a year.

The funeral began on Wednesday, but the main event was a procession on Thursday morning, when from the Palace to special huge palanquin to the cremation ground was taken by a burial urn for the ashes of the king.

Almost all Thais knew no other king, except Pumipon Adulyadej. After his death the throne was succeeded by his son, Maha Vachiralongkorn.

Maha Vachiralongkorn also lit the funeral pyre in which to be cremated his father.

Many Thais have arrived in Bangkok a few days before the ceremony and slept on the sidewalks, hoping to be near the procession from the Palace to the cremation ground.

After worship in the Palace of the palanquin with an urn for the ashes of the monarch went to the place of cremation.

Many in the crowd were dressed in all black. Buildings in the old town decorated with flowers.

Bhumibol Adulyadej was at the peak of the Thai power pyramid 70 years, despite many military coups in the country.
