Russian diplomats accused the US government in the removal of consular archives

Actions by the us authorities violate the provisions of the Vienna Convention, stated at the Russian Embassy.

Moscow. 24 Oct. INTERFAX.RU — Authorities in the United States alone were taken from the building of Consulate General of Russia in San Francisco inviolable consular archives and gave it to the Russian Embassy in Washington on 23 October in spite of repeated protests from Russia, said the Russian Embassy in the United States.

“The us authorities have not granted us access to the building of the Consulate General of Russia in San Francisco, closed their decision on September 2, in order of export of the consular archives. Instead, they independently Packed and transported him to Washington. This was done in spite of repeated protests from the Russian foreign Ministry and the Embassy. On 23 October, the archive was transferred to the Embassy,” — said in a statement released by the Russian diplomatic mission.

The Embassy stressed that “the consular archives and documents are inviolable at any time and regardless of their location.”

“By their actions the American side once again grossly violated the relevant provisions of the Vienna Convention on consular relations and the bilateral consular Convention,” the statement reads.

The Embassy also stressed that “the dismissive attitude of official Washington to international law, the Russian diplomatic and consular facilities and property opened the possibility of similar treatment of the representations of the USA in Russia”.

“On the principle of reciprocity, which is based on diplomatic relations”, — added in the Embassy.
