The head of Catalonia refused immediate Declaration of independence

Carles Pujdeme

The head of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme urged Parliament to leave open the possibility for negotiations with Madrid. It is reported by Catalan TV station TV3, which was broadcasting live the speech of the leader of the Catalan in the Parliament of the Autonomous community.

“The referendum results are a mandate of the people to ensure that Catalonia became an independent state in the form of Republic. Propose to Parliament to suspend the adoption of the Declaration of independence to the possibility of further dialogue,” — said Pujdeme.

A plebiscite on Catalan independence was held on 1 October, more than 90 percent of those who voted for secession of the region from Spain. The Central government tried to prevent the referendum, including power methods. Suffered 893 people. Madrid does not recognize the outcome of the election and considers his results null and void.
