According to the channel, police detained the wife and child of a suspect they are questioning. The location of an employee of the American mission, which possesses diplomatic immunity, is unknown.

Earlier on 4 Oct arrested a member of the US Consulate General in Istanbul, the Turk Metin Topuz. He is suspected of violating the Constitution and attempting to overthrow the government of the Turkish Republic. According to Turkish authorities, Topuz is associated with supporters of the opposition Fethullah preacher Gulen, whom Ankara accuses of plotting a failed coup d’état in 2016. Gulen lives in the United States, Turkey has unsuccessfully attempted to secure his extradition. Himself the preacher denies all charges.
