Suffrage will improve after the presidential elections

Ella Pamfilova

The head of the Central election Commission Ella Pamfilova said that the formation of the strategy of improvement of electoral law will begin after the presidential election. Her words on Thursday, September 28, RIA Novosti reported.

Pamfilova said that doing this will be a group created under the administration of the President. “The main work will come after the presidential election, it is natural, logical,” — said the CEC head.

The electoral law, in her opinion, needs to be adjusted. “When you have unfair person not to register, although he deserved, a decent man, and there’s a paper there — and we owe it not to register. This is nonsense,” — said the head of Department.

Pamfilova expressed hope that the next parliamentary cycle in Russia will be “intelligible, clear, fully meet the public request today and tomorrow legislation, which will allow to hold elections worthy of the country in which we live — a competition, a debate, with all the necessary attributes that cause people and interest, and trust.”

One of the most criticized features of the electoral law is a municipal filter, introduced in 2012. This procedure of collecting signatures of deputies of representative bodies of municipal formations in support of candidates for the posts of heads of regions. On the filter repeatedly complained to representatives of different parties. However, the CEC expressed disagreement with the statement that the procedure is impassable for most candidates.

The Russian presidential election will take place on 18 March 2018. The new head of state will hold office for six years.
