Shvydkoi: the scandal around the “Matilda” defines the level of culture in society

MOSCOW, 29 Sep — RIA Novosti. The scandal surrounding the film “Matilda” by Alexei Uchitel is a “litmus test” to determine the level of culture of the Russian society, said the special presidential representative for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi.

“What happens around “Matilda” is a litmus test of the state of culture in society and a fundamental misunderstanding of its role,” — said Shvydkoi told reporters.

According to him, what’s going on “Matilda”, “a lot of savagery.” Shvydkoi said that it comes from the immaturity of and lack of education.

“The fact that the government can change the situation around the movie “Matilda” or around the monument to Kalashnikov, I think it is a great illusion. Generally in society there are indeed different groups of people who have different ideas about culture. If you remember, yesterday, one of the deputies, Mr. Milon ever said that we need to stop funding art until then, until we can determine what kind of state. But the state is an abstraction. The state exists in order to determine what is good and bad in art”, — said Shvydkoi.

The movie “Matilda” about the fate of the ballerina Matilda Kschessinska, and fell in love with future Emperor Nicholas II. Long before the release of the movie caused a public outcry. The main parties of opposition were directed by Alexei Uchitel, and the Deputy of the state Duma from “United Russia” Natalia Poklonskaya.
