The court of Cheboksary has sentenced to two years of imprisonment 28-year-old man for publishing in “Vkontakte” songs inciting ethnic and racial hatred, reports on Tuesday, September 26, the press service of the Investigative Committee for the Republic of Chuvashia.

According to investigators, in December 2016, the resident of the village of Tomsk three times placed in his account of the song of an extremist nature. It is noted that the offences were discovered by the staff of the Republican centre for combating extremism of the interior Ministry.

The man was found guilty under part 1 article 282 (“inciting hatred or enmity, humiliation of a person or group of persons on the grounds of nationality and race”).
In 2016, the Supreme court encouraged lower courts to depart from the formalistic approach to consideration of cases against Internet users. It was reported that the number of persons convicted of extremism for the last four years has increased several times: in 2011, there were 149 people, for the first half of 2016 — 400. Most of the citizens received sentences for likes and reposts of extremist materials.
