Off the coast of Australia found the city octopuses

An international team of researchers has discovered the city octopuses on the bottom of Jervis Bay located off the East coast of Australia.

Large den cephalopods Octopus tetricus was named Octlantis, the newspaper reports Science Alert.

During the underwater expedition at a depth of 10-15 meters was found octopuses live in holes dug in the accumulation of shells, stones and sand.

Scientists have observed the life of marine animals, taking the city on an underwater camera for 10 hours. All scientists have counted 15 cephalopods, which are in contact with each other, and together chased other animals and even evict one another from shelters.

The city’s area is 72 square meters. Scientists believe that octopuses could involve the projecting stones, which became the basis for marine “settlement.” However, the researchers do not yet know what benefit it carries for shellfish living together. This area is characterised by an abundance of food, but it attracts the attention of predators. In addition, between animals is highly competitive.
