The most likely end to human civilization
Physicist Max Tegmark from the Massachusetts Institute of technology (USA) in an interview with IEEE Spectrum devoted to the recently published in his book “Life 3.0”, called the most likely negative scenario for the future of human civilization.
The greatest danger to the inhabitants of the Earth, says the scientist, is artificial superintelligence, not conscious. “When I talk about consciousness I mean subjective experience: it feels something like me,” said the scientist.
In his opinion, the study of artificial intelligence often ignores the problem of consciousness, in particular, the distinction between conscious and unconscious systems of information processing characteristic of living and nonliving nature.
Tegmark is against “carbon chauvinism”, accepting that life can be based and, in particular, silicon. The expert believes that intelligence and consciousness can be described by equations.
“If we educate children who continue to follow the dreams, which have not reached us, then we can be proud of them, even if we are already there. But if, instead, we will raise a new Adolf Hitler who will destroy everything that matters to us, we will not be so excited,” said the scientist.
