Alexei Mironov, a volunteer staff of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in Chuvashia, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for the repost extremist images in the social network. He explained that Mironov informed “has already been brought to administrative responsibility and deleted them, but then were prosecuted”. The case was heard in Novocheboksarsk city court in the closed mode. Semenov said that the decision will be appealed to the Supreme court of the Chuvash Republic for 10 days. “Now Alex is at home. In case the sentence comes into force it will have to get to the place of serving of punishment,” he explained.
Mironov did repost the two images in “Vkontakte” in 2016. One contained the phrase calls for the violent overthrow of the government, the second stir hatred or hostility on religious grounds.
As reported by the portal “mediazone”, the case against the volunteer opened in July. To his home in Cheboksary came up in a search by the police. The activist took hard drives, three knives, and a disk with a film. Semenova in 2015 was also fined for the repost in social networks, and then was prosecuted.
