Merkel proposed to discuss the suspension of talks with Turkey about joining the EU

BERLIN, 5 September. /TASS/. Europe needs at the next summit to discuss the possible termination of negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the European Union.

This was stated on Tuesday by German Chancellor Angela Merkel speaking in the Bundestag.

“I will propose at the next EU summit to discuss future relations with Turkey, including the question of whether to postpone or to terminate the negotiations (on accession to the community),” she said.

The German Chancellor underlined that the countries — members of EU must show on this issue the cohesion. “It would be strange if we in the European Union fell out before my eyes [President Tayyip] Erdogan,” — said Merkel.

She noted that “developments in Turkey is a serious concern”. According to her, the country “further and faster out of the way of the rule of law”.

On the eve of the official representative of the Cabinet of Germany Steffen Seibert said that the next meeting of EU leaders scheduled for October.
