Putin visited the Tolga monastery during a trip to Yaroslavl region

YAROSLAVL, September 1 — RIA Novosti. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin in the end of his working trip to the Yaroslavl region visited the Svyato-Vvedensky Tolgsky monastery, told journalists the press-Secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov.

Putin was accompanied by the acting Governor of the region Dmitry Mironov.

In the monastery on 20 August took place the celebrations devoted to Day of the Tolga icon of the mother of God and the 30th anniversary of the revival of the first Russian women’s monastery.

Svyato-Vvedensky Tolgsky convent belongs to the Yaroslavl diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery located in Yaroslavl on the left Bank of the Volga.

The monastery was founded in 1314, as a male, Bishop of Rostov Prokhor on the place of the miraculous finding them with icons of the virgin (the tolgsk icon), which became the main Shrine of the monastery. In 1928 the monastery was closed and in 1987 transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church and reopened as the first restored convent.
