Britain may call on the NATO countries to increase defense spending

MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. The British defence Secretary Michael Fallon at the upcoming EU summit in Brussels might call on European countries to abandon the idea of a European army in favor of NATO funding, fearing that the US President-elect Donald trump put an end to us support of the Alliance.

This was reported in the Friday newspaper The Daily Telegraph, citing a source in the British government.

The election trump, who during the election campaign spoke about the possibility of reducing U.S. involvement in NATO, gave the UK the “impulse” to encourage other countries to allocate more resources to defense, the newspaper notes. Today Europe faces major security challenges, there are more global issues than it was after the cold war, the newspaper said.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on the position of the trump in relation to NATO, explained that “security guarantees within NATO is provided by the Washington Treaty. They are absolute and unconditional. They are very important for Europe, but they are also important to the United States.”

On Thursday European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that Americans “will not ensure the safety of the Europeans in the long run. We have to do it”, calling for the creation of a European army, reports the publication.

Defense spending of NATO declined from $1 trillion in 2008 to $871 billion in 2015, the newspaper said.

HelpDonald Trump. For what it’s like and nenavidyat most queer President of America.
