The manufacturer changed the shape of Toblerone chocolates, increasing the distance between the triangles in order to reduce costs. Reported by the Daily Mail, noting that the new design has angered fans of the dessert.

Company Mondelez International has decided to reduce the weight of the dessert, without reducing the size of the package and not raising prices. Change “topography” of chocolates will reduce the weight of 400 grams to 360 grams and 170 grams to 150. The measure became necessary because of growth of prices for components of Toblerone.

Outraged chocolate lovers have launched the Twitter hashtag #ToblerGone (“Toblerone is dead”).

The majority of social network users found the decision erroneous, and a new design sweets — stupid. Also some users found #ToblerGone a direct consequence of Brexit — the UK decision to withdraw from the European Union.

“I told you that Brexit would be dire consequences,” wrote one Twitter user, posting a picture of a Toblerone in the new design.

After online outcry, representatives of Mondelez International had to explain that the modification of the chocolates is not the result of Brexit. However, in this confectionery company has been unable to verify whether the touch changes in the design of products for the UK or new version of Toblerone will be supplied across Europe.

Toblerone, milk chocolate with nougat, almonds and honey, was created by the Swiss Theodor Tobler (Theodor Tobler) in 1908. Presumably, resident of the city of Bern was inspired by the triangular peak of the Matterhorn. Since 1990, the brand owned by American company Mondelez International (formerly Kraft Foods). The chocolate is made in the USA.
