Putin urged Russians to rely on the spiritual Covenant with ancestors

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Russian society has to follow the spiritual precepts of their ancestors in the fight against modern challenges and threats. Speech, according to the head of the state, in particular, the admonition of Prince Vladimir, reports TASS.

“His era had many accomplishments, but most important, determinative, of course, the key of which was the Baptism of Rus (…) This choice has become a common spiritual source for the people of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine”, — said Putin, speaking at the opening ceremony of the monument to Prince.

The Russian leader stressed that Prince Vladimir “laid the moral foundations of values”, which are still relevant today.

“It is a strong moral support, cohesion and unity helped our ancestors to overcome difficulties, to live and win the glory of the Fatherland, and from generation to generation to strengthen his power and greatness. And today, our duty is to stand together against new challenges and threats, based on spiritual precepts, on the priceless tradition of unity and harmony to move forward, ensuring the continuity of our millennial history”, — concluded the President.

Inauguration of the monument to Prince Vladimir on the Borovitskaya square in Moscow took place on Friday, 4 November, national unity Day. In the event, in particular, was attended by the head of state, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin, head of the Ministry of culture Vladimir Medinsky and Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill.

The height of the monument amounted to 17.5 meters. Its author was Salavat Shcherbakov. Work on the installation began in mid-October. Initially, a 25-foot statue planned to put on the Sparrow hills.
