Citizen of Saudi Arabia was arrested for a promise to burn women drivers. About it reports Reuters.

“I swear to God, if I see a woman with a broken machine, burn the car, and herself,” — said in a leaked online video a man in traditional Arab clothing.

Saudi newspaper Okaz, according to Reuters, he said: the man aged about 20 years detained by the police on the orders of the Governor of the administrative district of al-sharqiya.

A decree allowing women to drive was signed on 26 September. It will take effect in June 2018.

For decades, officials gave a different explanation of the prohibition. Mentioned, for example, that women driving contrary to the Saudi culture. Or that male drivers will not know how to behave, if the neighboring vehicle behind the wheel. It was noted even that the admission of women to management will lead to promiscuity and collapse of the Saudi family. One of the senior scholars, without proof, claimed, for example, that driving harms the ovaries.

After the fall in oil prices, Saudi Arabia is trying to restructure the economy and not to depend on hydrocarbons, and motivates citizens to seek employment in promising sectors of the economy. Many women of the Kingdom were forced to order a taxi to go to work, which reduced their income and not motivated to continue working.
