The President of Brazil Michel Temer put forward new charges of obstruction of justice and racketeering. About it reports Reuters.
This is the second set of criminal charges against the President on the basis of a statement of admission of guilt by the owners of the world’s largest meat group JBS SA. They accused the Temer of bribery in exchange for political help and conspire to buy the silence of the witness. The President firmly rejected any allegations of involvement in the offences.
In August Temer charges of corruption were blocked by his supporters in the lower house of Congress, which has the right to decide whether President to appear before the Supreme court. However, the charges remain in force and may be given a further course, as soon as Temer will leave his post. His tenure as head of state ends January 1, 2019.
Most corruption schemes are being investigated in relation to the leading politicians of Brazil, linked to kickbacks in exchange for contracts by state enterprises or cheap loans from the state development Bank of the country.
Earlier, the chief Federal Prosecutor Rodrigo Janot sent to the Supreme court a request for the presentation of accusations against the ex-presidents of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff and Luiz inácio Lula da Silva. They are suspected of organizing a criminal community. 12 Jul Lula da Silva was found guilty of corruption and money laundering. He was sentenced to 9,5 years of imprisonment.
