The EU has declared non-recognition of elections of the Governor of Sevastopol

The EU stated that regional elections in the territory of the Crimean Peninsula are illegitimate and, accordingly, does not recognize the election of Governor of Sevastopol. The relevant communiqué posted on the website of the EU.

“The European Union did not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation and therefore do not recognize the elections in the Crimean Peninsula. Any elected on the Crimean Peninsula, claiming to “represent” the Crimea and Sevastopol, will not be recognized as representatives of areas that are Ukrainian,” reads the statement.

The report notes that the EU “remains steadfast in its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”.

Earlier it was reported that in a single voting day, September 10, the acting Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov, representing the “United Russia”, scored 71,05 percent of the vote. Direct election of the head of the city passed for the first time.

Crimea and Sevastopol became part of Russia after the March 2014 referendum. During the voting the majority of respondents supported such a decision. Kiev to recognize the results of the plebiscite refused. In Moscow indicate that the procedure conforms to the norms of international law.
