The former head of the Mari El Markelov will remain in jail until the beginning of winter
He was charged with receiving a bribe in especially large size.
Moscow. September 11. INTERFAX.RU — Moscow’s Basmanny court on Monday extended until the beginning of December the arrest of the former head of the Mari El Republic Leonid Markelov accused of receiving a bribe of 235 million rubles, and the defendant in the case, Natalia Kozhanova.
“The court satisfied the investigator’s petition to extend against Markelov of a measure of restraint in form of detention for another three months, i.e. until 12 December. The court also denied the defence in the election of softer measure of restraint not connected with the content in jail”, — have informed “Interfax” in court.
They added that N. Kozhanov will remain in custody until the same date.
Markelov was charged with receiving a bribe in especially large amount (part 6, item 290 of the criminal code), another defendant in the case, the Director of “Television 12 Region” Natalia Kozhanova in the mediation in bribery (part 4 of article 291.1 of the criminal code). With the approval of the Basmanny court of Moscow they are under arrest.
According to the investigation, Markelov received via Kozhanov from the founder of the factory of JSC “Akashevskaya” Nicholas Crevase as a bribe more than 235 million rubles for the protection of and assistance with property the disbursement of state support to development of agricultural complex.
Another defendant in the case — businessman Kripalu in absentia brought accusation in bribery in especially large size (part 5 of article 291 of the criminal code), he declared in the international search.
