Politico: Tillerson has approved the use of $60 million to fight informational influence of Russia
WASHINGTON, September 1. /TASS/. U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson ordered to use $60 million to fight propaganda, including outbound, according to Washington, Russia. This was announced on Thursday, the newspaper Politico, citing its sources in the foreign Ministry.
We are talking about $80 million that Congress has allocated to counter the propaganda of terrorist organizations and campaigns of disinformation, allegedly pursued by Russia. Funds were provided for the so-called Center for global cooperation (HLC) is created on the basis of the state Department unit, which aims to counter terrorist propaganda and counter-informational influence from countries such as China, the DPRK and Russia.
With $60 million of this amount are accounts of the Pentagon and would be unavailable to the foreign office after September 30. However, the chief of American diplomacy, says Politico, took last week the decision to spend only $40 million from these funds and $20 million — already included in the current budget of the state Department.
