Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to accept the elected UN Secretary General, antónio Guterres, who on November 24-25 visit to Russia. This was confirmed by the TASS press Secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.
“Indeed, such a meeting is prepared,” he said, answering the question of the Agency about the possibility of contacts with Putin Guterres this week.
Earlier the assistant to the new Secretary General of the UN, Melissa Fleming reported that Guterres plans to make visits to the capitals of the countries – permanent members of the UN Security Council, including in Moscow.
The official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova last week said that on 24 November, foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet in Moscow with the elected Secretary General of the UN to discuss urgent issues of the activity of the UN in the first place the way of settlement of acute regional conflicts, increasing the efficiency and prospects of reforming the world organization and, of course, the issues of interaction with the Secretariat.
On 13 October, the UN General Assembly adopted, without a vote a resolution on the appointment of Guterres ninth administrative head of the Organization. The former Prime Minister of Portugal appointed a Secretary General for a term beginning January 1, 2017 and expiring on 31 December 2021.
