In the Arctic, discovered a previously unknown one-eyed monster
MOSCOW, 26 Oct — RIA Novosti. Canadian scientists discovered in the waters of Victoria island previously unknown kind of arthropods belonging to the genus Monstrillopsis. This was reported on the National Geographic website.
The creature was caught by scientists at the depth of 63 meters in 2014. According to the researchers, the creature belongs to the plankton, reaches a length of two millimeters, has eight legs and one eye. There is a lack of a mouth and two antennae.

The scientists called arthropod Monstrillopsis planifrons, which can be translated from Latin as “flathead monster”. A new species has similarities with the known Monstrillopsis dubia, but in a different proportions and tuberosity of the body. According to lead author of the study of Aureli Delaforge, the creature can serve as proof that the Arctic holds many mysteries that are yet to be discovered.
