Netanyahu: Israel will not accept attacks on its territory and will respond to the fire

TEL AVIV, October 19. /TASS/. Israel is not ready to tolerate attacks on its territory and will quickly answer them by fire. This statement was made on Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, commenting on the flight of a shell from Syria on the Israeli controlled part of the Golan heights and the reply of the Jewish state on it.

“We have a clear policy: to respond with force to any attempt to harm us, — said the Prime Minister. — We will not tolerate attacks, and when we strike, we respond with fire, and it does not take much time.” Remarks Netanyahu had extended his office.

Earlier Thursday, the army of the Jewish state struck a stance in Syria, where shortly before it was released, a shell exploded on the Israeli side of the Golan heights. “In response to the projectile exploded earlier today in Israel, the army struck a position from which fire was conducted on the Syrian part of the Golan heights,” — said in a military communiqué released here. About the victims in the incident from the Israeli side of the message has not been received.

The newspaper “Yediot Ahronot” reports citing the Arabic media that the Israeli army on Thursday struck fire artillery positions of the Syrian army in the province of Quneitra. According to the newspaper, the Israeli response to the attack also has done without victims.

Belonged to Syria since 1944, the Golan heights were captured by Israel in the six day war of 1967. In 1981, the Israeli Parliament passed the “Golan heights Law”, which unilaterally proclaimed its sovereignty of the Jewish state over the territory. The annexation was invalidated by resolution 497, the UN Security Council on 17 December 1981.
