Assad said the possibility of amending the Constitution

MOSCOW, 26 Oct — RIA Novosti. Syrian President Bashar Assad said Thursday that the success of the Syrian army and allies in the fight against terrorists gradually pave the way for political efforts to resolve the situation in the country.

In this regard, he noted that Damascus is ready to support political efforts that are in “national reconciliation and dialogue among all, through the Congress of national dialogue in Syria” until making amendments to the Constitution and holding new parliamentary elections. In 2016, Syrian President Assad said that the transitional period in Syria should be held under the current Constitution.

Previously, the idea to hold the Congress of the peoples of Syria, which should involve all ethnic and religious groups in the country, the government and the opposition, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Possible amendments to the Constitution

Asad on Thursday passed in Damascus a delegation from Russia, headed by Russian President’s special envoy on the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentyev.

According to the press service of the President of Syria, the parties discussed the victory of the Syrian government forces and allies against terrorism and preparation for the next round of talks on Syria in Astana, which is scheduled for October 30-31, including the topics that will be discussed in this round of negotiations.

Assad, in particular, pointed out that the successes of the Syrian army and allies in the fight against terrorists gradually pave the way for political efforts to resolve the situation in the country.
