Russian students after two years will be forced to play chess

Minister of education and science Olga Vasilyeva said in the Federation Council about the plans of the Ministry to introduce compulsory lessons in chess in the school curriculum in the next two years, reports on Tuesday, October 10, TASS.

Additional competencies for educators, she said, is not required. “This is a very simple program. It is built in such a way that a teacher of any age may itself, using methodological guidelines, to teach a child to play chess,” — said Vasilyev.

This lesson will allocate one hour a week from the first to the fourth classes.

“We have 40 regions play chess, and they show a totally different assessment,” — said the Minister, speaking about the connection of this game with improving the quality of education.

In December 2016 the Federation Council recommended to the Minister of education and science to include chess in the school curriculum of primary classes, replacing this game one of the physical education classes.
