Syrian government troops and allied forces repulsed a powerful attack militants “Islamic state” on the road Palmyra — Deir ez-Zor. About it RIA Novosti reported a source in the headquarters operations of the city.
According to him, the militants attempted to cut the road in the village of Al-Shuli between Deir ez-Zor and Al-Sohne. “As a result of fierce fighting, the terrorists suffered losses and retreated”, — said the Agency interlocutor.
South highway leading from Palmyra to Deir-ez-Zor, is the main route of supply of the city, which for three years was in the siege of ISIS. On the way to the city arrive daily convoys of food and medicine, as well as the pillars of the Syrian red Crescent and cross with humanitarian aid.
In early September, a detachment of the Syrian army and fighters of the allied forces broke through the encirclement of the rebels in the South-West of Deir ez-Zor and met with the defenders of the city.
On 21 September it was reported that Deir-ez-Zor 85 percent came under the control of Syrian government forces.
