The state Department refused to recognize the referendum on the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan

United States does not recognize the independence referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan, said on Friday U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson. His words on Friday, September 29, Reuters.

“The United States does not recognize the unilateral referendum of the Kurdistan regional government on Monday. The vote and the results have no legitimacy, and we continue to support a unified, Federal, democratic, and prosperous Iraq,” — said Tillerson.

“We call for calm and the cessation of verbal accusations and mutual threats,” he added.

In Iraqi Kurdistan, on 25 September held a referendum on independence. According to official data, the creation of a sovereign state in favor of more than 92 percent of the population.

Against the plebiscite strongly advocate the government of Iraq as well as Turkey and Iran. In the United States stated that “the holding of a referendum in the disputed areas is a particularly provocative and destabilizing”.

Iraqi Kurdistan is the unofficial name of the Kurdish Autonomous region in the North and North-East of Iraq, which has the status of a wide autonomy within the country’s legally enshrined in the Constitution.
