Putin and Erdogan met in Ankara

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a meeting in Ankara, RIA Novosti reported.

The meeting began at the residence of Erdogan in 19:10 GMT. As noted, the Turkish President met the Russian leader at the door of a waiting car, after which they headed to the main entrance on the red carpet, along which was exhibited a guard of honor soldiers. Putin and Erdogan shook hands and proceeded inside the residence where the negotiations began.

Presidents gathered to discuss the situation in Syria, the outcome of the independence referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan, the implementation of the project “Turkish stream” and NPP “Akkuyu” and a number of other items on the bilateral agenda.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov stated that the Russian leader’s visit to Ankara “has absolutely pragmatic goals.”

12 September, Moscow and Ankara signed a contract on delivery to Turkey anti-aircraft missile systems (WRU) s-400 “Triumph”. On the same day Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara made the first payment for the purchased weapons.
