Cooperation between Moscow and Ankara in the military sphere not directed against third countries, said the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov. His words to the correspondent “Tapes.ru” on Wednesday, September 27.

“No one has the right to criticize Russia and Turkey for military-technical cooperation, which is carried out in strict accordance with international law”, — said the representative of the Kremlin.

Commenting on the upcoming visit of the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Ankara, Peskov said that he “has absolutely pragmatic goals.” In particular, the parties “will synchronize watches” on the Syrian settlement, he added.

12 September, Moscow and Ankara signed a contract on delivery to Turkey anti-aircraft missile systems (WRU) s-400 “Triumph”. On the same day Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara made the first payment for the purchased weapons.

The first statement of intent of Turkey to the C-400 appeared in the fall of 2016. In the spring of 2017, the question was repeatedly discussed at the highest level, including twice in March and in may — at the bilateral meetings between Putin and Erdogan.

The presidents of Russia and Turkey will hold a meeting in the Turkish capital on September 28.
