Wrongly convicted in Finland Cuban will receive 200 thousand euros compensation

Cuban volleyball player, wrongly convicted in Finland for rape, will receive from the authorities compensation in the amount of 198 815 euros. It is reported Yle.fi.

The district court of Pirkanmaa region in September last year found guilty of five of six Cuban volleyball players, accused of rape with aggravating circumstances. Four athletes received five years in prison, one was sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment.

A year after sentencing, the court of appeal reduced the sentence to all participants of the crime, and with one of them the charges were dropped completely. Justified the man was present at the place where the crime was committed, but took no part in it.

The athlete is required from the Finnish authorities compensation in the amount of 381 thousand euros, including money for cancelled due to getting to the jail contract with the club.

The crime occurred during a volleyball tournament held in the summer of 2016 in Tampere, Finland. Players of the Cuban team abused the citizen of Finland in one of the hotels.
