“Interfax” notes that the election is contested by 42 parties. To get into Parliament, candidates must collect not less than five percent of the vote. The main rivals are the conservative bloc, which is headed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Social democratic party of Germany (SPD).
Reuters notes that the elections to the Bundestag this year may become a historical event, because in Parliament for the first time, more than half a century, unable to enter the ultra-right (the party “Alternative for Germany”).
