The US President Donald trump has promised military assistance to Ukraine in the form of defensive assignments. This was stated by the Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko in an interview with Fox Business, commenting the results of talks with his us counterpart.
“Trump said he was ready to support Ukraine, including in the field of military-technical cooperation”, — said Poroshenko. According to him, this interaction will be strictly limited to obtaining defensive systems, not lethal weapons.
19 September it was reported that the U.S. Senate approved the allocation of $ 150 million in the 2018 fiscal year for military assistance to Ukraine. In previous years, these goals have laid the amount of $ 350 million, but for 2018 spending has been reduced. It is noted that the Pentagon is free to give Kiev only $ 75 million. For allocation of the remaining funds will need special permission of the Senate.
On the same day, Poroshenko announced that the us legislators approved the allocation of Ukraine $ 500 million for support in the areas of security and defense. According to him, adopted the US defence budget provides, including the supply of “lethal weapons of a defensive nature”, as well as increased air force and Navy. In addition, American money in medical institutions, the United States will undergo the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian military.
