The UN security Council has honored the memory of officer Petrov, “who saved the world from nuclear war”
UN, 22 Sep — RIA Novosti. U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson at the meeting of the UN security Council on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons commemorated the Soviet officer Stanislav Petrov averted in 1983 the nuclear trigger on US objectives due to system error.

In 2013, in Germany he was awarded the “Dresden prize for the prevention of conflict and violence”.
Petrov died 19 may 2017 in the suburbs, this became known only in September.
