The Tunisian authorities decided to discontinue the anal tests for homosexuality. This was stated by the Minister for human rights of the country Mehdi Ben Gabria, according to BFMTV.
The official did not indicate at what point this practice will be discontinued. However, now any suspect homosexuals may abandon this procedure and it will not serve as a proof of his guilt.
“This audit can be carried out forcibly or under threat of physical or moral pressure and without the consent of the person concerned,” said Gabria. At the same time, he added that we are not talking about the cancellation of the prosecution of homosexuality, as, according to him, Tunisian society is not yet ready.
In Tunisia, a sexual relationship between persons of the same sex is a criminal offence punishable by three years in prison.
