Supporters of Catalan independence have continued mass demonstrations, demanding permission to hold a referendum on regional independence, scheduled for 1 October. About it reports Reuters.

Several hundred people gathered in front of the High court of Catalonia. They hold banners reading “Stop the dictatorship” and “We want to vote”.

The press-Secretary of the Central government of Spain, Mendez de Vigo said in this regard that the protests organized by a small group and do not reflect the General mood of the population.

On 20 September the head of Catalonia Carles Pujdeme accused the Central government of Spain in the aggression against the Autonomous community. He also expressed full support to the government and other officials, detained by the Spanish police.

Earlier in the day, police detained 14 senior Catalan officials associated with the preparation of the referendum on the region’s independence from Madrid.

The Parliament of Catalonia on 6 September adopted the law on referendum, allowing 1 October to be held in the Autonomous region vote on the question of independence. Earlier, local authorities have developed a document according to which it will be advertised immediately in the event of the failure of Central authorities to allow the plebiscite.

Catalonia — a region in the North-East of Spain, which seeks to secede from the Kingdom. The local Parliament on 9 November 2014, voted for sovereignty. The Declaration, which was supported by the majority of the deputies, set a period of eighteen months, during which the region should gain independence.
