A former German spy will head the diplomatic mission of the EU in Russia in October

New EU Ambassador in Russia Markus Ederer will arrive in Moscow on October 1 and will begin work as soon as is reasonably possible. This was announced by charge d’affaires of the EU delegation to Russia Sven-Olov Carlsson. His words RIA Novosti reported.

“We are awaiting the arrival of a new Ambassador soon. From October we will have a new Ambassador of the EU (…). This will be Mr. Markus Ederer, he is the state Secretary of the German foreign Ministry, he was appointed, has received the consent from the Russian side, so he is expected to assume his duties in October,” said Karlsson.

According to him, the Ederer “will start to work as soon as possible.”

Judging by the summary Ederer published on the website of the German foreign Ministry, the new EU Ambassador located in the diplomatic service since 1988. He has worked in Canada, Russia was the EU Ambassador to China and Mongolia. Between 2002 and 2005, Ederer was head of political and economic intelligence for the Federal intelligence service of Germany (BND).
