The head of the Duma Committee on defense Vladimir Shamanov (“United Russia”) called irresponsible statement by the American Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley about the possible destruction of the DPRK.
Earlier on Sunday, Haley said that the United States has exhausted the opportunity to resolve the North Korean problem in the framework of the United Nations. She noted that if the DPRK will threaten the security of the United States and its allies, it will be destroyed.
“I think it’s a cry from the heart. Because differently you will not name. Because if you take America, (ed.) America, of course, available. But to do that I think that it will take additional efforts, and, above all, the consent of the world community. They’re not going to live on another planet. So I think that this is tantamount to the irresponsible statement of a superpower, which has positioned itself as a leader in the world community,” Shamanov told RIA Novosti.
The MP is convinced that the US is unlikely to take such a step without the consent of the world community, “which is not, of course”.
The DPRK said on September 3 about the successful test of a hydrogen warhead, which is designed to equip Intercontinental ballistic missiles. The military of Japan and South Korea have previously estimated the power of the tested charge 160 kilotons, which is ten times the power of the atomic bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. It was the sixth nuclear test by Pyongyang. The week before the DPRK tested a ballistic missile that flew over Japan.
In connection with these events, the UN Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions against the DPRK, which will significantly limit the export and import capabilities of Pyongyang. Resolution 2375 set the most stringent UN sanctions regime in the twenty-first century.
