MOSCOW, 18 Sep — RIA Novosti. Outstanding Georgian and Russian Opera singer Zurab Sotkilava, died Monday morning in his 81st year of life; according to his last wishes, he will be buried in Georgia, told RIA Novosti the widow of the deceased.

People’s artist of USSR, soloist of the Bolshoi theatre Zurab Sotkilava, has died after a long illness. Relatives of the singer said after the surgery he was feeling better, but hope for recovery did not materialize.

“Zurab Lavrentievich will be buried in Georgia. Such was his will. It was his desire, he was talking about for a long time. I and my daughters want that. And I think that this does not interfere,” — said the widow of the famous singer.

Farewell to Sotkilava will be held September 20 at the Bolshoi theatre, where he served since 1974.

Loss to vocal art

Colleagues and pupils Zurab Sotkilava with deep sorrow took the news of his death. The General Director of the Bolshoi theater Vladimir urin said that with the death of a famous artist who belonged to the “Golden age” of Opera of the Bolshoi theatre, leaving a whole era.

“He worked with (Vladimir) Atlantium, (Elena) Exemplary, (Tamara) Sinyavskaya. He was known not only in Russia, he would make an outstanding world singer. It was a very sociable, kind, cheerful and cheerful person. He courageously battled his disease. We planned creative evening dedicated to his birthday, but the disease did not give this to happen.
