Maduro considers himself similar to Stalin

TASS, September 18. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that between him and Joseph Stalin there are similarities. The corresponding statement he made in the program “Sunday with Maduro”, which was broadcast on the TV channel Venezolana de Televisiоn.

“In the world there are people who think I’m a Caribbean Stalin. And I’m like. Look at my profile,” — said the head of state. “Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and feel similar to Stalin”, — he added.

At the same time, the President expressed the opinion that criticizing the world leaders use in their countries more stringent methods than he is. “[Prime Minister Mariano] Rajoy sent to Catalonia the police to detain 700 mayors. Who acts as a dictator? Maduro, who allows the opposition to hold a plebiscite, or Rajoy, who doesn’t want to speak?” he said.

In mid-July, political opponents of Maduro have organized so-called people’s referendum which invited citizens to Express their opinion on the convening of the Constitutional Assembly (CA). According to the President of Venezuela, he “ordered to provide his security, despite the fact that it was illegal.”

According to the Venezuelan opposition, it conducted the plebiscite was attended by more than 7.6 million people, of which 98% voted against the convening of the CA. The government has not recognized the results of the vote and exposed the authenticity of the results questioned.
