In the State Duma proposed to oblige airlines to compensate passengers who do not have enough seats on the plane, tenfold the price of their purchased ticket. The draft of amendments to the Air code intends to make the first Deputy Chairman of the Committee on energy, member of the faction “Fair Russia” Igor Ananskikh, writes “the parliamentary newspaper”.

According to the author of the document, many of the Russian airlines sell their flights more tickets than seats on Board. This so-called overbooking, or rebooking.

“The airline has estimated that approximately 7-10 percent of passengers, as a rule, are late or refuse to fly — said Ananskikh. — That carriers and embark on a trick: sell additional tickets to earn more money”.

Currently, the overbooking legalized in several countries. They are the mechanisms by which a passenger waiting for departure on the next flight may be obtained, for example, monetary compensation.

At the same time, Russian legislation does not stipulate what to do with purchased a ticket by the passenger, who did not have enough space in the cabin. According to experts, the Russian carriers compensate passengers can not offer and sell the “extra” tickets blamed on a technical glitch in the booking system.
