The government proposed the recognition of overseas weddings and deaths
The draft rules of registration of acts of civil status of Russians living abroad, published for public comment. Previously, the law obliges such citizens to report all events to be recorded.
The Ministry of Finance has developed the procedure of registration of marriages, divorces, births, adoptions, changes of names and other events that took place with Russian nationals abroad. The draft government resolution and the relevant rules are posted for comment on the Federal portal of projects of normative legal acts (regulation.gov.ru).
Earlier, in 2016, the state Duma adopted the law developed by the Ministry of Finance that obliges Russian citizens to notify the authorities of any foreign acts of civil status — marriage, divorce, birth of children, adoption, name change and other events.
In the proposed government draft provides that the Russian registry office or a consular institution abroad within two days will have to make in the Unified state register data from those documents which will provide the citizens. However, these companies will be required to take the Russians “documents issued by the competent authorities of foreign States”. Citizens of Russia must, within one month after occurrence of the event subject to registration to report him to the authorities.
