Govorukhin called the word “Russian” is disgusting

Co-Chairman of the Central headquarters of the popular front, a state Duma Deputy and filmmaker Stanislav Govorukhin expressed his aversion to the word “Russian”.

His words sounded in the air of TV channel “Russia 24”, reports RIA Novosti.

“Maybe it caught on, but “Russian”, “Russians” even purely linguistically disgusting sounds”, — he said.

Govorukhin said that the people of the country for many centuries called themselves Russian.

In response to the question about the proposal to enshrine in law the Russian nation, he said he did not really understand what was going on. Govorukhin reminded that Soviet times, people of different nationalities called themselves the Soviet people. “Now there is no Soviet government, so I don’t understand who we are,” added the Director.

9 the Commissioner for human rights in Russia Tatyana Moskalkova said that the issue of legislative consolidation the Russians, as a nation, should be the subject of a referendum.

3 November in the state Duma started to develop the concept of the law. The initiative was put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the census in 2010, 80 percent of citizens consider themselves Russian.
