The Federation Council was going to challenge the report of the ICC to the Crimea

Moscow may challenge the report of the Prosecutor of the International criminal court (ICC) Veils Bensouda in the Crimea, said the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev. On Wednesday, November 16, RIA Novosti reported.

“Today, there is every reason to challenge a highly contentious, highly politicized and not relevant to the actual situation, the document of the ICC Prosecutor,” — said Kosachev.

The Senator noted that the report has many factual errors and discrepancies. In addition, according to the policy, in its conclusions to the ICC Prosecutor relies solely on the assessment of the Ukrainian side.

So, the report argues that Moscow allegedly admitted the fact of participation of Russian troops in the seizure of the Crimean Peninsula. According to the MP, thus Bensouda interprets the confirmation at the highest level “a legitimate presence on the Peninsula our military, which, as we know, did not use force and nothing exciting”.

But, according to Kosachev, the court “reluctantly the report recognizes” that Russia began to control the Peninsula “without a fire fight”. Despite this, the Prosecutor concludes that the situation in the Crimea and Sevastopol, equivalent to the international armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia, said Kosachev.

The head of Committee of the Federation Council has reminded that Russia does not fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC.

Earlier on 16 November, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the withdrawal of Russia from the agreement on the International criminal court. Official Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained the decision of the national interests of the country. In the state Duma believe that the withdrawal from the agreement is associated with the engagement of the ICC.

The day before the court’s Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda called the annexation of Crimea to Russia’s war against Ukraine and occupation of its territories.
