NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said about the need to continue dialogue with Russia. About it reports Reuters.
“NATO is willing to engage in dialogue with Russia. Russia is our largest neighbor, which will always be. When we face various security issues when passions run high, negotiating is especially important,” said Mr Stoltenberg reporters before the talks with the defence Ministers of the EU countries in Brussels.
The Secretary General noted that member States of the Alliance does not recognize the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Agency notes that the statement by Stoltenberg was made after Monday, November 14, a telephone conversation between the President-elect of the USA Donald trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, in result of which, the parties agreed on “constructive cooperation”.
13 November this year, the NATO General Secretary said that over the past few years have seen the rise of security threats due to “assertive Russia” and chaos in North Africa and the middle East. Member States of NATO have given a collective response: the United States, in particular, deployed additional contingents in Eastern Europe.
Earlier, in the beginning of the month, Stoltenberg stated that he does not see threats from Russia. Stoltenberg reiterated that the Alliance “is not in a state of cold war with Russia.” “But our partnership is not at the level that we would like to achieve after the cold war”, — he added.
