“Donald trump needs to say clearly whose side he’s on. On the side of justice, peace and democracy, or he doesn’t care, and he shows a gesture of male friendship,” — said the Minister.
In addition, she pointed out that Trump should not perceive NATO as a business. “This is not a company,” stressed von der Leyen.
On 3 April, during the election campaign trump made the disintegration of NATO. He stated that the allies “do not pay their fair share”, and called the legacy Alliance of 28 countries. He said that if they don’t start to pay, then have to leave the organization. “And if NATO falls apart, then so be it,” concluded trump.
