The leaders of the Kurdish opposition party arrested in Turkey
With them detained five members of Parliament.
Moscow. 4 Nov. INTERFAX.RU — Two co-chairs of the Kurdish opposition “Party of people” (HDP) detained by Turkish authorities, said on Friday the BBC. Selahattin Demirtas was arrested at his home in the city of Diyarbakir in the South-East of the country, Figen Yuksekdag taken into custody in Ankara. Along with party leaders arrested at least five members of Parliament from the HDP.
The arrests of deputies were made possible after the Turkish President approved controversial constitutional amendments, allowing to deprive of immunity of members of Parliament on the basis of requests of the Prosecutor’s office, said the BBC.
“Democratic party of the peoples” — left political party that fights for the rights of national minorities in the country, especially the Kurds. Turkish authorities accuse it of having links with banned in the country “Kurdistan workers ‘party”.
