Continued: Zakharova called political action at the Russian Embassy in London
The Russian Embassy in London asked the British foreign Minister to investigate the protest, held near the Embassy. This was stated by the head of the Russian mission Alexander Yakovenko in an interview with RT on Friday, November 4th.
“We also asked the foreign Ministry to protect us in future from such actions, which would carry the threat of security,” the diplomat said.
Yakovenko noted that the Embassy respects the right of people to protest and Express their views. However, “in this case, this was done in an unacceptable way,” he said.
The head of the diplomatic mission added that the UK authorities first allowed the protesters to come close to the entrance. “This is the first time. At least before they were on the other side of the street,” he said. According to Yakovenko, visitors and Embassy staff could not enter the building or out of it, blocked the phone line companies. The Ambassador believes that these actions were planned in advance.
Earlier on Friday the Russian diplomatic mission expressed concern about the reluctance of British authorities to ensure the smooth operation and security of the mission. According to them, the incident “is not surprising” in light of the recent call by the foreign Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson to hold the protests near the Embassy of Russia.
While the British foreign Minister declared his innocence to “a peaceful protest”.
Thursday, November 3, a group of demonstrators blocked the work of the Embassy. Activists, on t-shirts that read “save Aleppo”, chained themselves to the entrance to the consular section and filled up dozens of plastic hands from mannequins.
