Russia does not rule out the possibility of a visa-free regime with Georgia
MOSCOW, 3 Dec — RIA Novosti. Russia does not rule out the possibility of a visa-free regime with Georgia, but in this issue it is necessary to consider the negotiations of Tbilisi with the EU, said in an interview with RIA Novosti, state Secretary, Deputy foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
The diplomat recalled that the Russian Federation almost a year ago radically eased conditions for citizens of Georgia, Russian visas, and today any citizen of Georgia can come to Russia by private invitation, issued by any Russian citizen or residing in the Russian Federation a foreigner.
“In principle, do not exclude the possibility of a visa-free regime with Georgia. And, of course, in approaching this question it is necessary to consider the relevant processes between the EU and Georgia,” — said Karasin.
In his opinion, deserve attention, for example, such a moment.
“As you know, Georgia in 2006 unilaterally abolished visas for EU citizens. After the 2012 Brussels agreed to start talks on mutual visa liberalization, has compiled a detailed action plan on fulfillment of which, the city regularly reported for several years. We are talking about the big and laborious work, which included, as one might expect, closer cross-border cooperation between foreign policy and many other agencies. Involuntarily the question arises, how realistic is it to work between Russia and Georgia in the current situation of no diplomatic relations?”, he said.
