“Almaty shooter” sentenced to death
In Kazakhstan, a moratorium on the death penalty, the alternative which is life imprisonment.
Moscow. 2 Nov. INTERFAX.RU — the Specialized inter-district criminal court of Almaty has sentenced to death Bulekbaeva Ruslana, who in June of this year in Almaty a terrorist attack. The sentence Wednesday was read out by presiding at the trial judge Erlan Bolatov, reported the correspondent of Agency “Interfax” from the courtroom. The verdict is in detention under heightened security at the building are fighters in the courtroom, in addition to the convoy, there are special forces soldiers.
Bulekbaev convicted of committing a terrorist act, the murder of two and more persons, attempt at murder, robbery, illegal turnover of weapons, theft of weapons, stolen vehicles, illegal deprivation of liberty.See also
Nazarbayev has called the shooting in Almaty a terrorist attack
Armed man on 18 July 2016 opened fire on employees of the police Department of Almaly district in Almaty city centre, the city Department of Committee of national security. Victims of attacks were ten people, including eight law enforcement officers and special agencies. The city was declared “red” level of terrorist threat, which by the evening of that day was changed to mild yellow.
The assailant was arrested. They have been previously twice convicted adherent of Salafism 26-year-old Ruslan Bulekbaev. At the first interrogation he stated that he was attacked by law enforcement for revenge.
Kazakhstan’s President called the attack in Almaty a terrorist attack.
In Kazakhstan since 2003 there has been a perpetual decree of the President about introduction of the moratorium on the death penalty. Since 2004 in Kazakhstan there is a new type of punishment — life imprisonment as an alternative to the death penalty.
While the death penalty as a form of criminal punishment moratorium is not canceled and can be executed at the end of the year after lifting the moratorium.
